living with regrets

I am struggling to regain my blogging mojo after 9 days of thinking about absolutely diddly squat, so I hope you will forgive a dip in writing quality.

I have often noticed that some of my ways of thinking are not normal, surprise surprise. For example I find that the majority of the blogs that I read seem to agree about living with no regrets and not looking back.

I do have regrets. I have done things that I wish I had not done. And I do think about them sometimes. And if I had the chance to go back and change them, I think it would be interesting to see how life would have turned out.

I think that everyone has made loads of mistakes, and it is ok to regret them, so long as they don’t hold you back and you don’t dwell too much on them.

I think remembering your mistakes keeps you humble and also prevents you from doing the same thing twice.

To me there is nothing wrong with being reminded that I am fallible. My regrets are part of my life and who I am and I would not be complete without them.

I would love to know what other people think. In general I encounter the “no regrets” attitude and I think that it is a good attitude too. I think both attitudes are fine ways to live, just different.

Sometimes I wish I could live with no regrets, but that is just not me. So I have to use mine to move forward.

(I know the picture has nothing to do with this post but I think they are cool and pretty. You will have to put up with Egyptian photos for  a while!)

Everyone does things that they regret! Sometimes I am so overwhelmed by the pain that I can hardly breathe; at other times, I vow to try and learn from these regrets. Thankfully, as time passes, the sharp pain of regret is blunted. I think that this is why people adopt a no-regrets attitude – in order to be able to function and just get on with life.. otherwise, the regrets may totally swamp them…It’s difficult thing to balance.

I agree with both…I think the aim is to live life with no regrets, but at the end of the idea we are human and will make mistakes. Its how we deal with those and how we learn from them that makes us who we are as human beings. The saying: live with no regrets” is a saying that comes from someone having regrets, learning from them and striving to be a better individual :-)Well…that’s my take on it xx

No regrets? I regret things…boy do I regret them. And I’m also very good at guilt, so I STILL feel guilty about stuff I did say…5 years ago? *sigh*

Hmm, I am finding your responses interesting. Maybe we have our regrets and are all trying as best we can to learn from them but not let them weigh us down too much?

I wish with all my heart that I was one of those ‘no regrets’ folks! But I think, since I’m a pessimist by nature, it comes with the territory that I dwell on the past negatives of my life. Actually? I think the smug ‘no regrets’ folks are blatant liars. (Unless they read and comment here as well! LOVE YOU GUYS! Hahahaha) Or perhaps they’re simply suffering from amnesia?Just think, had there been a statute of limitations on memories? None of us would have ANY regrets!

I think you have to grow from your regret, learn from it and move on, thinking about it 24/7 will kill you, you cannot ever forget about it, and least I try to forget about it at times. For me, I have regrets about the girl that got away, I lied, she foung out, and I truly believed that we could have gotten married, had I not stuffed it up…my fault, I think about this at random times, and it hurts like hell! From this I try and be a better man.

I don’t have regrets, I have lessons. Every stuff up I’ve made has been an important lesson… and much as I have often wished I could go back and change things, my decisions and mistakes have got me to this point. That said, when I was looking back over my archives yesterday I found a few posts that I wished to hell I could have magically commented on and warned the past me about what would happen – it was like I could see my fall approaching, weird feeling. I think we have to appreciate regret in a way, otherwise we will never learn those lessons.

I think everyone’s goal in life is to live without regret. Thing is, we’re human, and we make mistakes. For one to say they don’t regret any of those mistakes, well…maybe they’re actually just not facing the fact that they made them.Everyone has regret, they just handle it in different ways.Maybe?

I am quite surprised by everyone’s replies. You are all more regretful than I thought. But in a constructive way, which is cool.

I don’t think “live with no regrets” is a viable motto at all. Of course don’t let guilt and anguish over mistakes weigh you down. But like others have said, we’re human and we fuck up. How are you going to not regret the day you hurt someone you care about for no reason? You are and you should. But it’s what you take from the regret that counts. I think the saying should be “Learn from your regrets” instead of live with them.Just my personal take on it!
