A word to the wise

make a big fuss about going to the shops at 9.30pm after climbing, specifically to buy a sturdy umbrella for the express purpose of staying dry on my 20 minute walk to work each day, and then wake up the next morning and think “I cannot be arsed to lug that enormous thing around with me today, it is huge and won’t fit in my bag, and where will I put it, it won’t fit into my locker, ah buggrit, it’s not raining now anyway.”

Am going to go squeeze myself out now.

Trade that huge version in for a smaller fold up version and a waterproof hoodie that both fold up into your bottomless bag!

My only question is, why didn't you get a fold up one?And yes, didn't know you climb! But then again, duh, I talking as if I should know things about you. *sigh* Probably a sign of Internet Blog-Reading Personal Delusion. Sad sad me.

lol – so you get a fold up one yet?that is brilliant! good to hear your climbing at all. Yeah the joints are about the same – would help if i remembered to take the medication some mornings but since i'm dead to the world in the mornings it isnt helping my cause. BUT have been occassionally and am finding that my technique is carrying my climbing and the physical ailments are becoming a less of a problem. Now what i need to do is just start going more regularly but for quick sessions so that i dont over do it and then hurt too much. We have to come up to the peak one of these weekends though!!

LOL! Forget the big umbrella. You need a small folding one that will fit into a bag!

These folding umbrellas right, I had two of them and they both broke the first day I used them! Iether I just bought crap umbrellas or they are all crap! Where do I get a good folding umbrella? I bought this big one because the other ones were a joke when it gets windy.I feel like an evil anti-environmentalist with all these broken umbrellas cos they don't exactly biodegrade!

Yeah – i know what you mean! I bought a cheapie one from primark – cost like £2. Later I then thought i should get a nicer more expensive one which only lasted a few weeks and then broke. Am now back with my cheap £2 Primark one which has lasted 2 years now !!! The wind isnt too strong here in London though. It has ben turned the wrong way in the wind a few times and then just pops back the other way. I was eyeing one from Next that is made of recycled content to begin with though

I think the wind in Oxford is a distinct species, I think all the big buildings all squished together tunnel the wind. AND it always rains here and not at home! Evil.

PVC poncho! Sure you lok like a walking condo, but you'll be dry when you get there, plus it'll fold up inot your pocket (once it's dry, of couse)

Totally with Helen. I wore a damn fireman-yeelo poncho at UCT and it was really the only thing that kept the sideways Cape Town rain off of me.

Hehe guys am considering the poncho, but not sure if it will fit over my huge michelin man jacket! How lame am I, I dragged my humumgous umbrella to work today and there is not a cloud in the sky. Gah!
